Patent law is hard for non-lawyers to understand, and is not made much clearer by reading statutes, in the US, or in the UK. This 722-page, 1996 book explains UK patent law in an understandable way. It corresponds to a US patent law book, "Patent Law & Practice" by H.F Schwartz in that the Cornish book explains UK patent law, complete with citations to UK cases, such that it can be applied by Experts assisting in patent litigation.

Meh, I'll pass on thriving, then...

This book sucks. I want my money back. Sure, you can learn a lot. But I already did that research. This book just tells you to act and think more sociopathically. Not the answer I want. That's the answer I've gotten my whole life. NO. I refuse. If one can't succeed without sociopathic skills, then I am proud to be an honorable failure at business. Shame on you, Oliver. But cool research, if it's all true.

A candid look at what really goes on!

This book says what we all know and see, but which has never really been expressed so candidly before. Of course, we talk about the office politics and we've all been caught up in it, for better of worse, and sadly, some never recover. This book is timely in that it highlights what to look out for and importantly, how to survive in the work place. This is a must read survival manual!

Jeana Floyd has been a pastor's wife for over 32 years. She is the mother of two married sons, Josh, who is married to Kate, and Nick, who is married to Meredith. Nice intro into becoming a minister's wife

I'm not married yet, but my boyfriend is in seminary and we will get married next year.
I wondered am I up to the challenge of being a ministers wife? Can I handle this? Can I support him whole heartedly?
This book is an excellent introduction into the life and responsibility a minister's wife will have. To hear Jeana Floyd's stories, opinions, and suggestions was so encouraging and I encourage other girlfriends of future preachers ;) or preacher wives that have been married for a short period time, to read this book. It is great! :)

Few will identify with the overall perspective. . .

When I read the overview of the book and the titles of the chapters, I was excited to read this book. And, as I began to read, I appreciated the engaging and personal way in which the book was written. Each chapter has some gems to ponder and consider. Further, the tone of the book is positive yet realistic. Floyd does not sugar-coat the challenges of the minister's wife; she approaches them realistically and with an abiding faith and trust in God.
However, the overall perspective of Floyd is one that few clergy wives living in 21st century America will identify with. The underlying assumptions of the writer speak of a bygone era in which the life of the pastor's wife revolved around her husband and the church, and much of the home life revolved around making life as perfect as possible in the home so the pastor could fulfilling his calling in the church.
Finally, as a Christian, looking at life as a balancing act, is not a paradigm modeled in the life of Jesus. Life is never "balanced." In fact, as ministers' wives, one of the main challenges is to learn to live under circumstances that are often off-balance. Planning and time management are not key, though they can be helpful. Instead, are we called to create healthy, holy rhythms so that we have the inner resources to lovingly and joyfully live with the daily imbalances of life, especially as ministers' wives?

A 'Must Read' for anyone who works with children

I am a Montessori teacher with 10 years' experience in the classroom as well as a parent to two young children. I also teach workshops to parents and teachers based on the Faber/Mazlish books.

Anyone who works with children should use this book as a reference and re-read it every year or two. Not simply because these methods are effective - which they absolutely are, when practiced faithfully - but because Faber and Mazlish promote a style of teaching/parenting that helps a child develop a positive self-image, strong skills of communication, empathy for others, and self-control.

I'm so dismayed to see even a few negative reviews of this book, presumably written by educators. One of the negative reviewers is right on the money: if you are a person who believes that the adult must retain absolute power over children, then this is NOT the book for you. I would also say that if you are that person, then you should STOP working with children immediately.

If, however, your goals are to aid a child in the development of a strong character and to help nurture life skills that will lead to an adult that is confident, capable of making decisions, and excited to learn and explore the challenges of the world: then get this book today.

I highly recommend this incredible book

This was a blessing to read! The book offers practical ways to create solutions for problems, how to listen, empathize, and better understand the person with whom you're speaking. As a teacher, I am able to apply this with students of ages ranging from 5 to 15 yrs old, and as a continuing student, I am able to apply communication techniques to others. The illustrations are especially helpful for "review" of the books main focus. This is a simple to read, easy to understand book, with efficient ways to apply knowledge towards MANY people, not only children. I recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in improving their communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and relationships with children. Husbands, wives, teachers, students, THIS BOOK WORKS when applied. I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride when I noticed myself referring to examples from the book, and you can, as well. It's definitely worth reading!

More of the same from the authors in this excellent series

This book was written in response to requests from educators, some of whom apparently experienced difficulty translating the principles from the authors' earlier work, "How to talk to kids will listen and listen so kids will talk." The writing is clear and the supporting comics are very helpful. Like their earlier works, this is about how to get kids to open up and has useful tips about a variety of subjects. For example, when brainstorming, let them go first so that they are not initimidated by some great suggestion.
As with the earlier works, the ideas apply similarly to adults. I don't think the book is necessary unless one wants more examples applied to primary education. Otherwise, I'd just get their first book.
