Helpful, but not much new here.

It is interesting that Rushdoony chose to write a third volume to his Institutes so long after the publication of the first two volumes. In many ways, the third volume serves as a summary of the previous two volumes. There is little new material. It is organized into very short chapters--some less than a page long.

Rushdoony does respond to his critics with more depth in this volume, but he still seems unable to grasp that his understanding of the validity of Old Testament law is entirely bound up with a hyper-covenantalism. His understanding of the Mosaic covenant is such that it all remains in force, with only the minor adjustments made very explicit in the New Testament.

Chapter 71 (I told you the chapters are short!) is entitled "Reason and Natural Law." This is the best critique of natural law in the three volumes, yet he forces his critics into this mold, which seems reductionistic. He writes,

"Natural law leads to the priority of reason which in time means that God's revealed law is ad hoc law., i.e., for a particular time and place and without wider application. This, in fact, is the conclusion drawn by antinomians."

Again, those that reject his perspective on the continuity of the Mosaic law are antinomians. Perhaps this is an accurate portrayal of the critics he was dealing with, but to reduce the argument to my way or the antinomian highway, is reductionistic and unhelpful.

Why can't we instead agree that God's law has been the same from the beginning, that it was revealed in a particular way to a particular people in a particular time. Though the force of the law remains, certain aspects of it were cultural and temporary. But to Rushdoony it is an all or nothing proposition.

I write this, of course, as a baptist. Perhaps that is obvious. Rushdoony's hyper-covenantalism distorts his understanding of law, but this is an admirable work. The first volume is by far the superior volume, but the third edition is a fine place to look and get a broad understanding of what Rushdoony's understanding of the law is.

My favorite quote from the third volume:

"...many will hold that these laws worked once in a more rural society; it is held that in our present great population centers, such laws would never function. However, in great urban centers today we have communities sometimes both religious and national, where the controls on all are very real because nobody is anonymous. When social institutions other than the state weaken, anonymity sets in, and also lawlessness. Where people are anonymous, crime increases. The modern world is saturated with anonymity because the modern state has undermined all rival powers. The lust for anonymity with some people is a desire to be free to sin without recognition. The growth of the modern city came when transportation had advanced so that goods could be shipped from almost anywhere in the country, but people flocked to the cities because they wanted anonymity. Anonymity or darkness is appealing to many sinners."

best flexibility book available.

Gotta add my voice to the chorus of praise for this great book. Before getting this book, I never would have imagined that I could find a lip slur book to be both entertaining and musically interesting, but that's just what it is! Instead of the typical harmonic dead end of staying in a single overtone series for each study, these clever exercises shift from one fingering to another to create witty and challenging lines that often evoke the harmonies of modern jazz. Frequent use of odd meters provide a rhythmic kick, and the whole thing is topped off by punning and satirical titles and written "instructions" that range from silly to laugh-out-loud funny.

The book is fairly difficult. There's very little that would be accessible to young players, but advanced students and professionals will love it.

Challenging - Fun - Funny

These Flexibilities have made their way into my daily routine.

Very entertaining, forces the performer to think about where they are in the slur unlike a standard lip slur exercise.

Belck's witty comments in the style section still make me laugh when I am working on them.

Book is very cleanly arranged, and very legible.

I am a trombone player: the book is in treble clef Bb, but is easy to sight-transpose to any brass instrument.

READ HAYES has been a Security Researcher and Consultant since 1984. He has over 28 years' hands-on crime and loss control experience with numerous organizations worldwide, including Target, Home Depot, Bloomingdales, Coles Meyer, Disney, Proctor and Gamble and Wal-mart. A co-ordinator of the Loss Prevention Research Team at the University of Florida and Director of the retailer-supplier coalition Loss Prevention Research Council, his current research focuses on offender decision-making, total supply chain protection, asset and key product protection and premises violence, security and safeness. Unlike the The Retailer's Guide to Loss Prevention and Security, I don't consider this book to be an excellent all-around book for retailer's and security. However, the sections explaining how loss prevention agents and electronic article surveillance work are awesome. I recommend this primarily for store detectives and security guards.

Peter Sestoft is professor and head of department at the IT University of Copenhagen. Very much enjoyed this book! Read it so fast, I devoured it. Fans of the show will find this to be a fantastic trip down memory lane, while other, more critical readers will delight in learning the innerworkings and labored diligence from everyone involved that made The Daily Show with Jon Stewart come off effortlessly every night for 16 years. There were many laugh out loud moments, and yet I can sense the painstaking struggle that took place behind the scenes to make the show as true to the intentions in which it ultimately evolved. This book portrays the popular show as its own life force that organically manifested into the consummation warranting critical acclaim, all the awards and accolades, and as Jon says about his early trials and tribulations, the same is true of the indelible impact The Daily Show with Jon Stewart ultimately has on America,"Yeah. The Daily Show (The Book): An Oral History as Told by Jon Stewart, the Correspondents, Staff and Guests by Chris Smith with foreword by Jon Stewart himself is a detailed insider’s look at the working of The Daily Show during Jon Stewart’s long stint of 16 years at the helm between 1999 and 2015. Until he arrived, The Daily Show was an ordinary show with ordinary rating but Jon Stewart transformed it in his own peerless ways with the help of people like Steve Carell, Samantha Bee and Stephen Colbert.

Many viewers of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart will find great delight in knowing that the book recaps some memorable moments as well as some forgettable incidents that took place in and off the show. Though written as a tribute, it is a no-holds-barred book capturing both the good and the bad. an absolute must for Romance/Fiction readers

I read Wild Swan, originally when I was 17. I'm now 32 and have read all of Ms. DeBlasis' books - I'm on my third copy. Wild Swan is the first in a series of three. Another of her books, 'The Proud Breed' is a must if you want to get a feel for her storytelling without committing yourself to three books.
"wild Swan" is the opening of a trilogy which spans close to 100 years in a family involved with smuggling, horsebreeding and racing and ship building. No one is perfect, everyone has faults and fears. From the coast of Cornwall to Maryland horse country and from the infancy of the 19th century to its near conclusion in 1892, we see portions of 6 generations of Thaines/Carringtons/Falconers and the hope of the 7th in the near future.
All of Ms. DeBlasis characters are real to the reader and generate emotional links as if we could reach out and touch them.
A definite must for anyone

Wild Swan is a hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered

Wild Swan is the first book of a fantastic trilogy by Celeste DeBlasis. This book is the infinitely touching story of two people destined to be together, who must first stumble a bit on their road to each other. We see these two grow up together, form their own lives, and eventually reunite for a love affair so amazing, you'll want to fall in love all over again. The other two books go on to form a delicately woven picture of the family these two make together. You'll become so intrigued by the story of these strong, proud people, you'll race to read all three books in this amazing trilogy. It is truly a shame these books are no longer being produced, but they are still obtainable, and well worth the effort!!!

I took "Wild Swan" and some of the author's other books with me on a vacation to Europe. Big mistake! I hardly saw anything except for the hotel room - all because I could not put her marvelous books down! I just loved the "Wild Swan" trilogy so much that I included a swan as part of my ranch logo. Her other books are just as compelling. Hopefully, there are more of this author's writings "in the works". These books will fill your heart :) THANK YOU CELESTE!

Its thoughtful and has some good ideas. A bit complicated but I think if I spend more time with it I will get some benefit. I think it would be better as accompaniment to a class. She gives lots of examples which are helpful.
