About the Author
American actor Vincent Price (1911–93) was well known for his distinctive voice and serio-comic performances in horror films from the latter part of his career. He and his wife, costume designer Mary Grant Price (1917–2002), were avid art collectors and gourmets.

Classic cookbook

So far I've only tried one recipe from here - the vichyssoise - and it was very easy and very delicious. I'm a huge fan of Vincent Price and after hearing a lot about the original print of this book I wanted a copy of my own. I'm looking forward to making a lot more recipes, and I've enjoyed getting a glimpse into the Price's home and travels. I also enjoyed the extra charts and tables included, such as the conversions/substitutions and calorie charts.

I recommend you know A LOT about classic French cuisine and technique before buying this book.

This is STUNNING book, visually, culturally, personally but technically is VERY difficult. I love it but I can do a lot in the kitchen and am semi-professionally trained. If you are not comfortable in the kitchen you will love reading it and may try a few recipes but don't be upset when you realize the author assumes a lot of knowledge about cooking in the reader. Having said that, it's a fantastic book.

So Glad I Purchased This

Arrived in great condition and as stated in description. What an interesting and unique cookbook by two amazing people! I'm really enjoying reading this treasury of global recipes, restaurant menus, and photos of said restaurants. The Prices' enthusiasm for extraordinary food and it's presentation is infectious. I was only eight years old when this was published and am loving seeing through their eyes what their world was like and those places they visited. I've even researched the featured restaurants and found that many are still in business even though they may be under different ownership or different names and have also compared the book's photos with the current online photos. Some have changed drastically and others not as much. But it's been fun to see these changes and sad to know that some of these restaurants eventually closed. And as for the Prices' promise that extraordinary food can be served in our homes without difficulty or "busting" our budgets seems to hold true. Which makes this cookbook such a great addition to anyone's kitchen.
