Lovaas Program is the best place to start when you receive the autism diagnosis

The Lovaas ABA program is one of the best places to start when it comes to autism therapy. It truly teaches the children to adopt more appropriate behaviors and open their world to learning. My daughter made huge strides with this program but it was under the guidance of a professionally trained Lovaas therapist. It's not a program you can do by yourself but I liked using it as a guide to see how the program would unfold and what to expect. This book is outdated being published in the 1970's because the updated Lovaas program does not use physical adversives as described in this book. It's all about extinction and positive reinforcement. It does a great job explaining why the Lovaas therapy works on kids with autism and explains the outcomes of each program. It's also organized so that each program builds on the one previous to it so you know where to start. In my area, therapists use ABA but I see that it's not the true ABA that is scientifically proven. It's sort of a watered down version of it so even children who have strong cognitive skills don't make the progress they should. It's best to start this program as early as 18 months old and I believe that progress will slow down dramatically if the program is started with children at the age of 7 and up. Early intervention will yield the best results possible.

Phenomenal Book!!!

The concepts within this book are up-to-date even though this book is 20 plus years old. The research shows that this method works! This method is successfully used today to help many delayed children reach their potential and if done correctly, a large number even recover with minimal or no symptoms. Before you buy anything else, buy this book and learn as much as you can from it, then start applying it immediately. I personally know at least a dozen parents of autistic children who have reported a complete recovery after 2 years of completing this intensive program! There are a few other helpful books such as those by Catherine Maurice that you can buy after reading this. However, no other book will give you the foundation to start from as this one will. Anyone who refuses to apply or accept the principles contained in this book, is doing SERIOUS damage to developmentally delayed children. ... Do whatever you can to get a hold of a copy of this book and the videos if you can. Your child depends on you!!
