About the Author
Faraz Inam is a corporate banker by profession. After a brief stay in the Pakistan Air Force, he opted to continue his career in civilian life, obtaining an MBA degree from the prestigious Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in the process. Having played major roles in two blockbuster television series in Pakistan in the nineties, Faraz now leads a quiet life while working for a bank based in the United Arab Emirates. He currently resides in Dubai with his wife and three children. The Misunderstood Ally is his debut novel.

In his first novel, Faraz Inam paints a realistic picture of the war on terrorism as it is fought in Pakistan. Following Samantha Albright, a CIA agent, to Islamabad and the country's tribal region, we experience the hands-on involvement of the various factions, from the Afghan terrorists that orchestrate suicide bombings on innocent Pakistanis to the operation of American drones that, despite precision rockets, kill not only the terrorists but also innocent bystanders. The reader finds warmth and normalcy in the family circle of a Pakistani army officer, Lt. Col. Dhilawar Jahangiri. He is at the center of the action bravely and selflessly fighting the adversary.
It takes awhile before the suspense in the narrative grows, but when it does, it captures the imagination. What makes the novel powerful, I believe, is the author's ability to expose not only the good or the evil of the principal characters but also the aspects that make them human. The author evokes some sympathy for even the worst of them. The language, even without perfect syntax, grammar and punctuation, is rich and alive and passionate and gives the novel an exotic touch. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
