No Faking, This is Why I Read.

Fake Fiancée is a new adult novel that combines the true heart of romance storytelling along with the sexy swagger of young love. It is yummy and delicious with the right amount of build up that draws you in so deeply you care about both hero and heroine achieving their goals. This was my first Madden-Mills book, but it won't be my last. I loved Fake Fiancée from start to finish so I'll be adding Ilsa Madden-Mills to my "need to read more of this author" list.
Max Kent is the star quarterback heading into his senior year of college. There is buzz talk of him receiving the Heisman trophy which would definitely mean the NFL in his future. If Max played his cards right and didn't screw up he'd have a real shot towards everything he's worked for. And when Max wanted something there wasn't much he wouldn't do to reach his goal. His last long term girlfriend almost screwed up his winning season last year, so when Sunny shows up on his doorstep the first day of class he sees a great opportunity and runs with it.
Sunny Blaine was a long way from where she'd run from several years ago. With little to her name she was attending college, taking care of her grandmother, working to pay for school and frankly she didn't have time for stupid, inconsiderate jocks. Miffed when a football groupie totaled her car, she had no qualms about letting the football jock who was basically an accessory to the crime (at least in Sunny's book) hear about it. What she wasn't prepared for was the instant connection that came after and the ridiculous proposal that shortly ensued.
Max and Sunny find a kindred spirit in each other, which quickly blossoms into friendship. When their friendship begins to burn into something more than they can handle will the inferno burn them and kill what they've built while they sit hopelessly on the sidelines watching it blaze out of control? Are they strong enough to make it through anything together?

Max and Sunny were such a delight to read. I really didn't want the story to end. For me, if I had a perfect description for what New Adult romance is, Fake Fiancée would be it. It captures the essence of youth, the budding relationship and choices young lovers make creating the pitfalls that happen when we doubt ourselves.
I can tell you, pick up this enjoyable read now, you won't regret it.

Hook, Line and Sinker

Max Kent is a hero. Max Kent is a savior. Max Kent is a bit of a douchebag. But even when he's at his worst he's kind of sweet as well making it impossible not to like him.
Sunny Blaine is my kind of girl - she's strong and independent and definitely not afraid to stand up to the Viking Quarterback.
Ilsa Madden-Mills hooked me with her English series and with this new release from her it's line and sinker - her writing is eminent and her characters leave me with a smile on my face...and who can ask for more than that.

Max and Sunny are touchdown perfect!

It came as no surprise since I'm a huge fan of Ilsa Madden-Mills and of course football, that I immediately fell in love with this book. But how she got me there was a little different than she's done it in the past.
First, I have to say I like to mix up my reading. I enjoy all genres and tend to veer more on the dark and suspense/psychological side. But when my brain and heart need a break I go for something a little less crazy; I go for the "palate cleanser". These are usually something I've already read and I know the writing is on point, the characters are fun and the storyline is more on the side of happy/sexy/entertaining. And Fake Fiancee was just that to a T.
It is light, very well written and brings a fun and sexiness to the story that is a perfect mix.
Max and Sunny's story began a few years prior, but it was but a blip on their radar. Not something that is focused on much of the story and Max honestly doesn't even remember. He just "knows" her and his heart has jumped. The story focuses on Max trying to go out with a bang his last year in college football. Football is his number one priority and he doesn't want the drama of a girlfriend or the groupies to hinder what he has his sights set on. The Heisman. Enter the cute, simple and natural neighbor, Sunny and we have a perfect match for a pretend girlfriend that understands what he is looking for and won't get in his way.
"Bombs have been known to implode-and I'd be the one getting hurt. In fact, you've already warned me. Remember? You don't do relationships anymore, and I don't do random sex."...."Someday I want something serious again-just not while I'm in college, ya know?"..."I get it..It's all about the timing."
The plot is light on angst and drama, but is sweet and has parts of laugh out funny. At first I took Sunny as more of girl that could be walked over, but she is anything but. She is stronger than she appears and she has been through stuff in her past. Plus, she knows how to hold her own against exes and comes out the winner. But sometimes being strong on your own is not the way to go, and if that someone walks into your life offering some sort of answer to a few things you need, you take it.
"He's the calm in your chaos."
And Max aka Quarterback is funny, sweet and I feel doesn't even really know what he needs until it literally knocks on his door. And if you know athletes, you know that they never give up. They like to work for things and they don't give up until they win. THAT is this story and that is the journey we go on with Max and Sunny. Fun, light, entertaining and definitely a little glimpse into fate. Sometimes it happens when you least expect it. And watch out because there always seems to be fireworks.

If you need a palate cleanser and are looking for fun characters with some awesome side kicks that I could continue to read about and a plot that is light on angst and drama, you've hit the jackpot. This was just what I needed at the perfect time. 4.5 Quarterback Stars!
